SPRING/SUMMER 2019 - Curatorial Internship at 836M Gallery
General Description of Program
836M is a non-profit gallery that combines artistic excellence with philanthropic impact. We pair renowned artists and evocative themes to enthrall and inspire those who visit.
Throughout the year, the gallery presents a carefully curated selection of art, including representing local street artists, hosting documentary screenings, and events for private and public audiences in our inviting contemporary space.
This internship will provide a unique and exciting opportunity to provide administrative and research support to the curator while working directly with artists and institutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
During this internship, you will work closely with the curator on the research and planning for major upcoming exhibitions.
Typical duties will include gallery assistance and maintenance, website maintenance, in-depth analysis, exhibition and event planning, presentation preparation, project management, and updating.
Specifics of the Program
Interns are expected to commit a minimum of six months (January to July).
Interns are expected to work a minimum of 30 hours (3 days) per week from January through June 2019.
Previous art history background and gallery experience preferred but not mandatory.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00
Commuter Reimbursement for Bart/Muni
Education and Training: Current student or recent graduate (Bachelors or Masters)
Work Experience: Previous experience in gallery assistance preferred but not mandatory.
Skills and Abilities: Interest, background, or knowledge of modern and contemporary art, and/or gallery operations; excellent organizational skills; excellent language, spelling and grammar skills; excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively and politely with the public, artists, vendors, and gallery staff at all levels; ability to meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality; ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
