Since its inception, 836M’s gallery space has hosted multidisciplinary exhibitions, performances, and artist residencies. We seek exceptional living artists exploring various artistic mediums. SAHBA AMINIKIA
THE LANGUAGE OF THE BIRDS
January 15 - June 1
Iranian-born and San Francisco-based composer, pianist, and educator Sahba Aminikia will use his five-month residency at 836M to work on his newest project, The Language of the Birds, a political rendition of 12th-century poetry by Farid ud-din Attar, a mystic from Iran (Persia) and a teacher of Rumi.

The David Rumsey Map Center
june 17 – july 12
836M is excited to partner with The David Rumsey Map Center and Stanford Libraries on Cosmic Maps, an exhibition that transports visitors to outer space. It showcases a curated selection of print and digital maps from the collection spanning modernity to the present day.
This exhibition is accompanied by a talk series featuring distinguished guest speakers covering topics ranging from “galactic cannibalism” to interpreting the history of the cosmos through dance.

The past will fail you
Edward Mills

The Past Will Fail You is multi-media artist Edward Mills‘ artistic U.S. debut. Born and raised in the United States, Mills has lived in Paris, France for the last two decades. Since 2019, he has exhibited throughout Paris and elsewhere in France. Working between drawing, painting and sculpture, his organic style combines a form of surrealist automatism with physically demanding, machine-like outputs.
